Just a quick update on matters COMICOZ... The Family of the late Monty Wedd have agreed to terms, allowing Comicoz the reprint rights to many of Monty's works from the past. (Monty held the Copyright to most, if not all of his works, and this has made the legal processes easier for all parties. Sadly, there are many Australian Artists and Cartoonists in years gone by who 'worked for hire' for various local publishers, making it more difficult to track down or even establish the present-day owner of this past material.) The first work of Monty's chosen to be reprinted is based on the Australian Bushranger, Ned Kelly.
'Ned Kelly, Narrated and Illustrated by Monty Wedd', ran in the Sydney Sunday Mirror for an incredible 146 weeks - from 1974 to 1977 - and has never before seen print in the one volume! I want to say from the outset that Comicoz considers this an incredible honour to be allowed this publishing privilege, and that no expense will be made to make this the wonderful book that it deserves to be. The actual publishing process will be described here on this web-site-come-Blog on a regular basis, to keep Monty Wedd Fans, Ned Kelly Fans, Australian Comic History Fans, and, well, just about everyone informed as to the process and progress of Comicoz' latest venture! Already an ISBN number has been allocated, and negotiations are taking place with a Famous Australian Comic Strip Artist to write an Introduction to the book... The plan is to make the First Printing of the book a Hardcover, so some crowd-funding options are going to be explored in the coming weeks. This will ensure that YOU, Dear Reader, may have some input in the final product, and you can keep up to date with all the happenings by returning to this Web-Page on a regular basis....! |
Comicoz is Nat Karmichael's publishing imprint. Nat is committed to preserving a permanent collection of Australian comic and comic strips. He feels that there is a need to recognise comics' contribution to and depiction of Australian culture.
Nat Karmichael.
Since 2011, Nat has self-published over twelve comic-related books and was Publisher-Editor of Oi Oi Oi! -- the last series of nationally-distributed comic books of original stories to appear on Australian newsstands. He is a member of the Australian Cartoonists Association and edited the Association's journal Inkspot for 14 issues from late 2015. He remains the Lead Judge in the Ledger of Honour Awards for the Comic Arts Awards of Australia (formerly the Ledgers). Nat has now retired from his former occupation as a Clinical Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Centre in Queensland's largest public hospital, so that he can spend more time with his long-suffering wife and their six children and fourteen grandchildren. He still plans to publish more comics and comic-related books, the details of which you should see here in the coming months... Comicoz acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay respects to elders, past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples.
