While I am busily preparing Comicoz' books John Dixon's Air Hawk and the Flying Doctor (Volumes One and Two) and Ned Kelly, Narrated and Illustrated by Monty Wedd ready for the Gold Coast and Melbourne Supanova Conventions, you might like to take a look at this clip from You Tube. Carol Tilley is a professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Illinois. She was one of the first people to be given access to the leader of the 1950s anti-comic movement, Dr Frederic Wertham's research notes and manuscript drafts. Carol's research has found that Wertham's research was flawed: his conclusions lacked supporting scientific evidence for his conclusions and he even fabricated some of his data. Tilley champions the use of comic books in classrooms and libraries with a mission of getting kids to read. And surely this is an honourable position to take! If you have time (the clip goes for more than 20 minutes!) have a look! This is a fascinating short documentary. My thanks to former Air Hawk artist, Paul Power, for bringing it to my attention! ![]() All of the Pozible Ned Kelly Supporters' will now have received or are about to receive the huge Comicoz package in the mail! Ned Kelly, Narrated and Illustrated by Monty Wedd has been lovingly produced and now must find other homes. I hope you can let me know your thoughts. And, for all present purchasers of the book, if you have a friend who would like to receive a copy of the book, let me know, and I will make a special offer for you! In the meantime, in order to get the message out there, I have been pressing on with Ned Kelly's Media Releases. The wheels are in motion, and discussions are underway with a few organisations and retail outlets interested in holding a Book Launch. I will post any details when they become available. From the first of March to today...not even four weeks. Ryan McDonald-Smith and I got together last week. Ryan worked on the interior pages to the Ned Kelly book, and we have now designed most of the interior pages to Oi Oi Oi! The page count has again increased (to 56 pages!) and Comicoz is now taking Pre-Publication Orders for the Oi Oi Oi! comic book! For only $7.50 a copy will be mailed to your address AS SOON AS COPIES ARRIVE FROM THE PRINTER! I cannot -- at this stage -- let you know WHEN this will be, but the goal is to have copies available for Sydney's Supanova. Speaking of Supanova, Comicoz will have all books available for sale at the Gold Coast and Melbourne events. So, come along and say "Hullo Nat!" and meet and greet me at the Australian Cartoonists' Association's table. I am getting all the books ready today just for you... Click here for more details.
Actually, I was left speechless when I first saw this! It's FABULOUS! I am trying to work on the inside pages, so I can get this beauty off to the printer. I am also trying to finish Rob Feldman's book. I am trying to get the Ned Kelly packages addressed, so I can send copies to the Pozible pledgers. I am trying to get Ned Kelly Media Releases ready, and now have to update, given I have just heard that Channel Nine is planning a television mini-series on... (yes, you guessed it!) ... Ned Kelly! (Based on the Peter FitzSimon book, and by the same crew who have produced Love Child.) The only good thing in all this?? Carlene has gone for a two week holiday to Bendigo, so I have more time to work on all these activities...in between work!
![]() Comicoz is as proud as punch (whatever that means!) to announce plans to release a brand new Comic Anthology to the Australian Public! Can there be no question as to the need for such a vehicle for all Australian artists and cartoonists to share their stories? Recently, an email canvassing this proposal was sent to a selection of Australian artists and Cartoonists...and I was overwhelmed with the incredible response of people wanting to contribute to the First Edition. Initially, I was planning to include pages dedicated to works from Artists from long ago. (I had eight pages of previously unpublished works from Sydney artist Syd Miller from 1927 that I felt were deserving of publication.) My thinking was that I may need to beef the page count up a little. How wrong I was! Within a short space of time, I have already found enough modern material to fill the First Edition, and some of the Second! I am only hoping that the Australian Public is just as enthused in supporting this product. To this end, I am ensuring that this comic magazine will be jam-packed with only the best artists and cartoonists this country can offer. Anton Emdin is presently working on the cover (see above). Inside there will be all-new pages from Bruce Mutard, Glen Le Lievre, Dillon Naylor and SCAR Studios. Artists whose works I greatly admire will also feature: Rob Feldman, Tony Thorne and Josh Santospirito. And there were other artists who (due to other commitments, to the narrow deadline, not hearing about it in time or other reasons) just were not able to make the First Issue! All in all, the total page count for the First Issue will come to a whopping 52 pages. The publication will be prepared for the printer in the coming month, with an expected release taking place at Sydney's Supanova. Can't make it to that event? Copies will also be made available via this web-site. I can't give you a price for the magazine just yet, but I am planning on keeping it under the $10 mark (including postage within Australia). From now until March 24th, I will offer a FREE copy to EVERYONE who orders a copy of the NED KELLY book. More details will be published as they come to hand. So please tell your friends, share the message via Social Media (as I will). In order that this venture is a successful one, there is a need for not only Australian Artists and Cartoonists willing to contribute, there is a need for people to WANT TO READ IT! READERS are what will keep this venture a viable one, so that is why I am now asking YOU to please PASS on this MESSAGE! NED KELLY, Narrated and Illustrated by Monty Wedd arrived from the printer THIS MORNING at our place! To all the patient Pozible Supporters: I salute you! Your patience - and mine! - has been Rewarded! Here are some photos of the event and activity at the Comicoz Headquarters today at 1105hrs. I am hoping to get the books to all who have made an order within the next ten days. Please continue to be patient, as this is going to be a mammoth task. To all Rob Feldman Fans: Rob has SMS'd me to say that his book will be print-ready next Tuesday. I am not sure that we will be able to do a simultaneous mail out, because I don't think Ned Kelly's Fans should wait a minute longer than they need to....!
