There were many entries I had planned on making my next Blog-Posting here, but they pale into insignificance compared to this news item. I have just learnt of the recent passing of Australian Comic Legend Peter Chapman, who was recently inducted into the Ledgers Hall of Fame.
Condolences to his partner of over forty year, Meg, and to his many Fans, Friends and his Family. Peter, we salute you, and thank you for the wonderful works you have produced over the years. SUBSCRIBERS have copies already! (They were posted last Wednesday!) All the artists and writers have their copies! Issue #8 of Oi Oi Oi! is released TODAY at Comicstreet, at the Indie Comic Market in the Queen Street Mall, Brisbane (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.)....and SOON in comic shops around the country! If your comic shop is not carrying it -- ask them to! We want EVERY COPY of #8 to SELL OUT around the country when it is released to the newsagents later this month! Look for this fantastic Magpie wrap-around cover by the one and only Frantz Kantor! Frantz is also responsible for the marvellous animation (above)....
This year, I've been going to a few different Festivals to get the Comicoz message out there. In fact, so many, I seem to have run out of time in one way or another, to have them all recorded on this Blog. (Although, those of you who read my Facebook postings, will have been kept reasonably up to date.) Rather than tagging on the coat-tails of my beloved Australian Cartoonists' Association as I have in the past, I have actually paid to be at Festivals in my own name this year. In some way, it has allowed a greater number of people to see the books and comics I have published over the years.
Next Sunday, is the most public of all Events that I will be involved in, along with another 32 other participants... Comicstreet. For public exposure, I don't think you can get any higher amount of public traffic than in Brisbane's Central Business District's Queen Street Mall. Here's a map of where to find me (Table 30, on the Stage), as well as a list of everyone else appearing between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. I had planned on releasing a Media Release to shout about my excited involvement in the Event, because I am also releasing the first copies of Issue #8 of OI OI OI! (with the fabulous Frantz Kantor cover) to the general public, but the last few days have seen me hit hard with the Flu and I have done nothing except slept in bed. As a result, Subscriber (and artists') copies that were supposed to be posted this week have been a little delayed, and my plans to broadcast the information to the world have fallen flat. Still, I am grateful that I am feeling better, and that I am alive to work on subsequent issues and other comic activities in the weeks ahead... THE Public Launch of the next exciting issue of Oi Oi Oi! is only ten days away -- and you are invited! Issue Eight will be released to the general public in a Special Indie Comic Market event in the middle of the Brisbane Central Business District! Mark the date on your calendar! June 11th in the Queen Street Mall Stage -- from 10 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon.
Featuring some of Australia's finest artists and writers, this is the best issue yet! (Oh, I know I said that last time... but you just wait and see!) Inside you will find fabulous stories by Antoinette Rydyr, Alisha Jade and Dave Dye. Western Australian boys Paul Bradford and Austen Mengler have presented us with a short and funny tale. And how about the true-life story from newcomer Stuart Walsh, as he shares tales from his family of ... gravediggers! You want more? Preston Peace returns with another whacky tale by Jason Towers and Owen Heitmann, and the classic adventures of Magpie by Andrez Bergen and Frantz Kantor continue. And have a look at that cover artwork by Frantz (reproduced just above): you tell me that that's not worth getting excited about! Of course, if you cannot wait until then -- and I don't blame you -- why not take out a subscription now? Go to our Store tab and, if you haven't done so already, order a subscription while the price is still discounted! Why? Because Subscribers will be getting their copies next week -- before the Comicstreet Launch! And when you do it, please feel a little sad for the people who have to buy their copies from the newsagents: the release of the Oi Oi Oi! #8 won't be available until ... oh, later this month ... I'll have to keep you posted... |
