It's been about a month since I posted anything here, which (I know) is most negligent of me. It's not really that I have been doing nothing, mind you; anyone who is also a Friend on Facebook (either as Comicoz or as Nat Karmichael), will see that I have been doing ...er, many things. It's just that I have not posted them here....
One thing that I have not posted, which I used to do every January, was to talk about my publishing plans for the year ahead. And I could talk about these here today, but I won't. I thought I would talk about voting.
We live in a Democracy, for which I am grateful, because it allows the population to select those who feel are best to govern us. Which are worthy to represent us. I see the parallels within comic publishing (as those who have read my Editorial in Oi Oi Oi! 's Fourth Issue will be well aware). A comic that sells many copies, is publically endorsed by the general public by the number of sales, and continues to prosper. A comic that cannot generate the 'votes' (sales), has to adapt to the Readers' needs in order to continue, or it will disappear.
I hope that, like me, you would like to see OI OI OI! grow and prosper. In order to increase the sales figures (the 'votes'), I have made small modifications to the magazine. The magazine now has less an 'underground comic' feel to it: and it has more family-friendly stories. Within the last issue, I have included a super-hero story. (MAGPIE, as I tell everyone, is the FIRST original newsstand-released Australian comic character to appear in OVER 20 YEARS!)
I was hoping that that might increase media interest in the magazine, and that this in turn might increase the public's awareness of the comic. Ah, but no. Who's really interested in a COMIC in Australia? So, how do we increase the 'votes', the sales, in Oi Oi Oi! ?? YES! I am canvassing YOUR 'votes' and/or opinions!
What do you LIKE or DISLIKE about the magazine? What (if anything) should I consider dropping? Do you want more humour? More Superheros? More Continuing stories? I am about to layout Issue #8 but also need to make plans for #9 and beyond. More pages? Lower cover price? Pease let me know by leaving a comment here, or sending me an email comicoz@live.com.au or PM me on Messenger or leave a comment on Facebook....
Together, let's see if we can't garner more 'voles' and make Oi Oi Oi! Australia's Best Comic Magazine ...ever! Well maybe, up until the next Election at any rate.....
