I was disappointed that I was unable to attend this year's Stanley Awards, but it is not often that one gets an opportunity to see a daughter into married life... Daughter Lora married Bendigo farmer Adam Hoctor in a beautiful old-world ceremony at a local (Bendigo) winery on November 24th. Carlene and I attended a couple of weeks beforehand to assist with the babysitting 'duties'... caring for Lora's four year old, Lollie (while Lora worked on fine-tuning the day), as well as son Will's children (Zoe and Zethan). A busy but fun time! I developed quite a skill in pushing the grand-children on swings, and one day Lollie learnt a new song that I sang as I pushed her on the swing.... The following day, Lollie asked if I could "sing the Piggie song again" - and it took me a little while to realise she was referring to that song by Buddy Holly, "Piggy Sue"! (You know the one, don't you??!!) While we were attending Lora's November wedding in Bendigo, Victoria, we were a little concerned that back in Gympie, Queensland, our newest grand-child would not wait until we returned! Luckily for us, Grand-daughter Hilda Lia Lotus (born in Gympie Hospital on December 4th) did choose to wait! We called in on her and proud mum PJ on December 6th, while Dad Corey was busy baby-sitting Hilda's big sister Bonnie. So while we were sad we did not catch up with Corey and Bonnie, we still had a wonderful two-hour opportunity to meet and greet our latest addition to our family. It was also good to be able to visit our girl (and Hilda's mum) PJ, who was 'complaining' about seven hours' labour! HIlda even allowed Poppie the pleasure of spending a whole hour cuddling up to her and sleeping through a scheduled meal break! So, to all my friends from the Australian Cartoonists' Association that I did not catch up with at the Annual Workshops/Award Night in 2012, I trust you can understand why I did not show! And I look forward seeing you again....maybe next year! |
