I am really looking forward to attending the Zine and Independent Comic Symposium (ZICS) being held tonight in Brisbane! And I can do so, knowing that yesterday's concerns (detailed here on this Comicoz Web-Blog) have been addressed....! How, I am not going to say; because that will spoil the surprise of the Ned Kelly book when it finally arrives.
My Thanks to all who emailed me with ideas, suggestions and much encouragement! JUST when I thought NED KELLY was all set to go at the printer, I have just received word that there are now four more available internal pages to fill AND an opportunity to print a cover different from the Dust Jacket....! To be continued...! Watch this space...!
Now that Comicoz has completed its Fundraising Project on Pozible and the NED KELLY book is on its way to the printers, there are other projects that you can support! The Gang behind the Zine and Independent Comic Symposium (ZICS) are deserving of your hard-earned! There are only a few days left on their Pozible Campaign to raise the $8,000 needed to fund their event. You can check it out and support them by clicking here. ZICS is a 3-day event to be held in Brisbane from Friday 30th August, Saturday to Sunday 1st September. I am working that weekend, but I have the Friday off, so I plan to get along to support them on their opening night. The event aims to provide a forum for creative people involved in independent publishing within Brisbane and across Australia, and that is a project worth supporting in my books...
Well, it would be pretty neat to tell you that an upcoming documentary was all about dear old Comicoz, but it is not. To learn that a Documentary has been produced and will be discussing this medium I am passionate about, is something I need to share! It doesn't matter one jot that it is about those good Perth folks Wolfgang Bylsma and Skye Walker Ogden from Gestalt Comics - as long as the comics message is getting out there for the general public to see and appreciate the Australian side to this medium, I'm fully supportive! So, I let me share with you that I will be watching ABC 1 Television on August 13th and 20th at 10 pm. Click here for more details.
COMIC BOOK HEROES is "the inside story of Australia's most ambitious comic creators and their fight to conquer the American market" and runs a week apart over two instalments. Get behind this programme and tell your friends! If the Australian media see good ratings, maybe they will start to realise that the comics medium and creative personnel behind our local craft are newsworthy and worth a more serious examination. For too long many local media stories have had a snickering approach to comics, because they - and I suppose the Australian general public as well - have this longstanding erroneous perception that comics are for children. Let's wish that this programme dispels some of that and other myths.... Monty Wedd's Ned Kelly book is now so close to being ready for the printer....well, I can almost smell the print! An exciting time, to be sure, but still a nervous one for a publisher let me tell you! The Pozible campaign is almost complete with less than 24 hours to go! (Click here to see it here or to put in your last minute pledge!)
I have included the updated Dust Jacket to the book here. A Hardcover! I have worked on comics that I circulated within my family home as a child, comics I had printed for friends as a teenager, comics that I published that ended up in comic specialty shops, then comics that had national then international distribution.... Then the Air Hawk paperback in 2011... But this is the first Hardcover I have published! So please be kind to me, and excuse my excitement....! The Dust Jacket (as part of my nervousness) will, no doubt, go through some minor modifications to the one you see above (the caricature of myself, for example, seems too large), but on the whole this is how it will look... |
