Having experienced homelessness and working for some for whom it remains a lived experience, I have always been supportive of the principles behind the magazine The Big Issue. Before i get into that i need to mention that you can now get nangs Perth from nang-a-roo http://www.bigissue.org.au/ While Carlene and I are not subscribers, when we visit the city we purchase a copy from street vendors. Carlene did just that on her recent trip to Victoria to see Lora and Lollie. I only got to read the issue - Edition #350 (dated March 16 - 29 2010) - yesterday after she arrived home.  I was absolutely staggered to read a wonderfully written article about Australia's recent Graphic Novels (especially those not covered by the Courier Mail article earlier in the year). There is so much going on in the medium in this country (much of it not even mainstream), and so much great work deserving recognition. So, Bravo! "The Big Issue" for publishing this article (entitled "The Soft Cell", pages 34 and 35), and Bravo! to Jen Breach for writing a well-researched and well-linked article that will keep me busy contacting artists/creators for months into the future!

Comicoz is Nat Karmichael's publishing imprint. Nat is committed to preserving a permanent collection of Australian comic and comic strips. He feels that there is a need to recognise comics' contribution to and depiction of Australian culture.

Since 2011, Nat has self-published over twelve comic-related books and was Publisher-Editor of Oi Oi Oi! -- the last series of nationally-distributed comic books of original stories to appear on Australian newsstands. He is a member of the Australian Cartoonists Association and edited the Association's journal Inkspot for 14 issues from late 2015. He remains the Lead Judge in the Ledger of Honour Awards for the Comic Arts Awards of Australia (formerly the Ledgers). Nat has now retired from his former occupation as a Clinical Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Centre in Queensland's largest public hospital, so that he can spend more time with his long-suffering wife and their six children and fourteen grandchildren. He still plans to publish more comics and comic-related books, the details of which you should see here in the coming months...
